Harilik kuusk on kuuseliik ning leviku järgi männi ja kase järel kolmas puuliik Eesti metsades. Selle puu võrse peatelg jätkab kasvu, teise järgu teljed tekivad allpool ladvapunga. Okkad on tavaliselt ristlõikes rombjad. Kuusk talub varju ja endale soodsa pinnasega kasvukohtades tõrjub ta välja teisi puuliike. Harilik kuusk elab soodsates tingimustes kuni 250, harva 400–500 aasta vanuseks. Harilik kuusk on kvaliteetne ja vastupidav.
The common silver fir is a species of fir tree and is the third most common tree species in Estonian forests after spruce and pine. The main stem of the tree continues to grow, and secondary branches develop below the crown. The branches are usually forked. Silver fir is tolerant of shade and can outcompete other tree species in growth conditions with suitable soil. In optimal conditions, the common silver fir can live up to 250 years, although it may occasionally reach 400-500 years old. The common silver fir is a high-quality and durable species.
